Minimum Teacher Salary set for 2024-2025

Pursuant to 24-8 and Public Act 103-515, the Illinois Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability is required to certify and publish the minimum salary for the following school year by September 30 in 2023, and by July 20 annually thereafter.  For 2024-2025, the minimum salary is $41,188.

That number is based on the Consumer Price Index for all items in U.S. city average, all urban consumers, not seasonally adjusted, as published by the U.S. Department of Labor, for the 12-month period ending on June 30 of the school year that ended 12 months prior to the school year in which the adjusted minimum salary rate is to be in effect, which, for the relevant time-period, was 2.97.

It is worth noting that while this minimum salary exclusively impacts the minimum salary which must be paid to a full-time teacher by a school district, a district's collective bargaining agreement may create other impacts for employees not directly impacted by salaries below the threshold minimum.
