November 1, 2015 - PERA Joint Committee Timeline
The early-implementers have already undertaken and moved forward from their initial PERA obligations, and now it is time for the majority of Illinois schools to do the same on their 2016 implementer timelines under PERA legislation.
Remember, the purpose of these PERA Joint Committees is to establish the performance evaluation plan to incorporate the use of data and indicators of student growth as a "significant factor" in rating teacher performance. 2016 implementers must meet no later than November 1, 2015. After the first meeting, PERA Joint Committees have 180 calendar days to reach agreement on how to incorporate data and indicators on student growth into teacher evaluations.
Joint Committees that do not reach an agreement on any required components within this timeline must implement the components from that portion of the "Model" set forth in the Illinois State Board of Education regulations. (See 23 Ill. Admin. Code § 50.210).
Miller, Tracy, Braun, Funk & Miller, Ltd. has worked with a number of boards and committees to develop plans that address all of the requirements in the regulations and to train the implementers in strategies for success - we look forward to working with your board and joint committees on achieving effective and compliant PERA implementation.
