Teacher Resignations
As of August 11, 2023, the prior teacher resignation law that could impact teachers' licensure for resigning during the term received updates to gain some additional teeth as Districts face staffing shortages. While we see most resignations where this process comes into play at the beginning of the school year, it applies throughout the school year.

Minimum Teacher Salary set for 2024-2025
Pursuant to 24-8 and Public Act 103-515, the Illinois Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability is required to certify and publish the minimum salary for the following school year by September 30 in 2023, and by July 20 annually thereafter. For 2024-2025, the minimum salary is $41,188.
Teacher Tenure Revisions
Illinois Public Act 103-500 was signed by Governor Pritzker on August 4, 2023 with an immediate effective date. It revises tenure acquisition rules.
Changes in Bullying Prevention Policy Requirements
PA 103-47 is in effect for the 2023-2024 school year, and requires changes to all school district’s bullying prevention policies.
Extension of Certain RTO Rules, Threat Assessment Teams to Special Education Cooperatives
Among the various changes contained in PA 103-175, the statute makes specific changes which extend certain requirements related to restraint/time out and threat assessment teams to special education cooperatives.
Appellate Court Refuses to Extend Personnel Records Review Act to Require Copying
In Scanlon v. Ignite, Org., the 1st District Appellate Court (Chicago) ruled that the plain language of the Illinois Personnel Records Review Act provides that an employee has a right to review of his or her personnel file, but not to a copy of that file.
